In Case of Fire: An Afternoon of Dance Performed by City of Austin Firefighters

Sat., Oct. 13, 2001
Austin Fire Department Training Tower
Austin, TX

In Case of Fire was a thirty-minute performance by a group of Austin Firefighters, featuring movements that the firefighters typically do in their work. Allison worked with this group of firefighters for over a year—riding out on the trucks to fires and medical calls, interviewing the firefighters about their work, and learning about the work of firefighting.

The performance featured the firefighters pulling hoses, climbing ladders, rappelling down a building and performing other acts of firefighting—all set to a musical score. Over 500 people attended the free event and gave the firefighters a standing ovation at the conclusion of the dance.
