Body Shift

A mixed-ability dance project

For over 10 years, Forklift Danceworks and VSA Texas have been engaged in the world of mixed-ability improvisational dance. Everyone moves in unique and different ways, and Body Shift offers dance classes for anyone to explore movement and the body. Body Shift creates a welcoming environment that empowers everyone to fully embrace dancing in their own unique way, promoting the idea every Body can find enjoyment in contemporary dancing.

Elements – A Class for Beginners to Body Shift
Come shift your perspective! In Body Shift’s on-going Elements class we offer a fun and accessible environment in which to explore dance improvisation. You can be a beginner and learn tools to create your own dance. You can be a professional dancer and be challenged to move in new and unique ways outside of your habitual patterns. We use the internationally renowned DanceAbility method of improvisation to encourage individual creative expression, increased body awareness as well as collaboration and ensemble thinking.

Classes take place on the 2nd and 4th Saturday of the month from 2:30 pm – 4:30 pm at Town Lake YMCA (1st floor exercise studio) – 1100 West Cesar Chavez Street.

This project is funded and supported in part by individual donors to Forklift Danceworks by a grant from the Texas Commission on the Arts, and in part by the City of Austin Economic Growth & Redevelopment Services Office/Cultural Arts Division believing an investment in the Arts is an investment in Austin’s future.
